First Sergeant Valerie Sturdivant is a native of Milwaukee, WI. She enlisted in the United States Army in January 2004 and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, SC followed by the Advanced Individual Training at the Defense Information School at Fort Meade, MD. There she earned the MOS of 25V. First Sergeant Sturdivant served in every leadership position within and outside of her MOS, from an Audio Visual (A/V) Team Leader at the 3rd Psychological Operations Battalion (Airborne) (Dissemination), Defense Information School Instructor; Squad Leader, 55th Signal Company (COMCAM); Senior Drill Sergeant at Fort Jackson, SC and the Alpha Company First Sergeant at the 3rd Psychological Operations Battalion (A) (D). First Sergeant Sturdivant deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as an A/V Team Leader, Radio Broadcast Team Leader in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and an A/V Non-commissioned Officer in Charge at the Special Operations Command – Europe. First Sergeant Sturdivant is a graduate of Warrior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Master Leaders Course, the First Sergeant Course, U.S. Army Drill Sergeant Academy, Joint Special Operations University (CEP2) (CEP3), Basic Instructor Training Course, Combative Level 1, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, SHARP Course, Battle Staff, and the Basic Airborne Course.

First Sergeant Sturdivant’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal; Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (5), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (CS), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (4), Overseas Ribbon(2), Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Parachutist Badge, as well as Chilean Parachutist Badge.
